Does a psychiatrist really help when you have depression and anxiety. My parents are alcoholics what my depression and anxiety oils down to is my mother. I am 21 years old and want a mom. I wanna be ale to talk to her. And she is always in the bottle in her own world and thiere isnt one thing i can do about it. What should i do i am already on alot of medication for it... If any one has expiernce with this please tell me your story and the out come of everything please. Thanks so much.
I am sorry that your mother has not been there for you. Unfortunately, some adults have never learned to handle their own fears and pass this on to their children. First, you have to realize that your mother will never be the mom that you want. So you need to find forgiveness in your heart. Start writing your feelings in a journal and write a letter to your mother telling her how her drinking has hurt you. You don't have to give it to her but you can burn it or tear it up to signify that you are letting go of needing her approval. Secondly, you are an adult and need to recognize that you are only responsible for your own life--not your mother's life or anyone elses. You have to realize that you are number one and that you are made in God's image and God does not make any mess. So there is nothing wrong with you at all and you do not need anyone's approval. You yourself are good enough but you have to have self-worth according to the principles of God which are in the Bible.
So find a group of people who are doing positive things in life and start attending meetings or talking with them. Maybe a church where you feel comfortable or a support group for children of alcoholics. Read some self-help books and here are some websites that will help. Be blessed!
