The Real Causes Of Depression

Most experts who write about the causes of depression usually provide a list with the following items:

  • Financial strain
  • Recent stressful life experiences
  • health problems or chronic pain
  • alcohol or drug abuse
  • family history of depression
  • Lack of social support
  • Unemployment or underemployment
  • Loneliness
  • Marital or relationship problems
  • Early childhood trauma or abuse

But these are all wrong. Many people experience these various 'stressors' without getting depressed. The items listed above can cause stress and hardship, but there is no reason for them to cause depression.

Now some of these factors can make it easier to slip into depression, such as childhood abuse. But they don't really cause the depression.

I received no medical training whatsoever. But I did go through severe depression. It lasted for decades. I finally got rid of my depression - for good - and I can show you just how to end depression as well.

Before I do, let's look at what really causes depression.

You've got a flow of emotion. A raw flow of feelings and thoughts. (An emotion is simply a 'package' of thoughts and feelings.)

And from the raw thought and feeling energy, we create our actual thoughts that we think and feelings we feel. But we've been taught almost from birth that our feelings have no value and we shouldn't even have them. So while it's okay to think, there's no need to feel.

Or at the very least, control your feelings. Just make sure you don't feel too much. Whatever you do, don't get intense with your feelings.

Originally, we only try to shut down the 'bad' feelings - the objectionable ones.

"Good girls don't get mad."

"Big boys don't cry."

But that's only the beginning.

You can't really block out the feelings you don't want to feel, while letting all the other ones through. That's because all your feelings come into you through the same pathway. If you crimp a garden hose, it restricts the entire flow. And that's what happens here.

All we want to do is block the uncomfortable feelings, but what happens is we restrict them all.

Our power comes from our emotions. They make us feel alive. everything about you starts shutting down when you don't feel your feelings. But you keep feeling worse and worse, and you don't know why. You think the feelings are what's making you feel pain.

But in actuality, it's when you don't feel the feelings that pain starts. It's painful to not feel your feelings. It takes work, and effort. You have to make up stories about your emotions.

These stories become like invisible structures that block the flow of emotion. And the structures become the very source of emotional pain in our lives.

Also, your heart wants to feel your feelings. But its being denied. When your heart wants to feel, but you won't let it, that's going to create emotional pain.

So where does the depression come in? What causes the actual depression here?

Depression is when you have a lack of your true feelings. Blocking your true feelings from entering your heart will lead you to depression. Unfortunately, we think our feelings are the source of the problem so we keep shutting them down more. Which only makes things worse. Really, it's the structures (which become like a pain factory) coupled with the absence of feelings coming into our heart.

The true cause of depression is the shutting down of our feelings - one step at a time - until we lose touch with the very aliveness our feelings bring. So technically, the loss of aliveness causes the depression.

Here's the thing:

Your heart wants to feel. Period. And it's painful when you don't let it. So start letting in the feelings. And for more details, just go to this page on the causes of depression.
